DTF’s strength is range: the transfer bonds to cotton, blends, and polyester alike, which makes it the default for mixed-fabric orders and full-color art without screens. The garments below rate well for DTF under VisePrint’s rules.
The variables that matter are press temperature, pressure, and finish — moisture-management coatings and lofted fleece both change how a transfer seats.
How to choose
- Mixed orders (a tee, a hoodie, a performance polo — same art) are DTF territory; one transfer file covers all three.
- On performance fabric, run a wash test before committing the full order — finishes can reduce adhesion.
- Lower press temperatures protect polyester from scorch and dye migration.
What goes wrong
- Pressing fleece at flat-tee pressure — lofted surfaces need more pressure for full transfer contact.
- Skipping the wash test on coated or wicking fabric and finding out at delivery.
Common questions
- Does DTF work on 100% polyester?
- Yes — DTF bonds to polyester well. Use lower press temperatures and test dwell time, since high heat can affect the fabric and its dyes.
