Micro Piqué

Micro piqué knits on the same basic structure as classic piqué — ribs formed by alternating knit and tuck stitches — but at a tighter gauge, so the diamond or basketweave texture reads small and flat, almost invisible at arm's length. Standard piqué polos often run 20-22 singles and land at 6 oz or heavier; micro piqué tightens that gauge and usually lightens the weight to something closer to 3.5-4.5 oz.

On the rack, it shows up on performance and dry-fit style polos — corporate golf shirts, moisture-wicking poly and poly-cotton blends — where the flatter face reads dressier under office lighting and gives a left-chest embroidered logo a clean surface to sit on. We've digitized logos that came out crisp on the sew-out for classic piqué and then went slightly fuzzy at the edges once stitched into that deeper waffle texture; the same file on micro piqué holds its lines.

Choose micro piqué when the finished look needs to skew closer to a dress shirt than a tennis shirt, or when the art carries fine detail — thin serifs, small type — that a coarser knit would blur. Classic piqué still wins on breathability and that traditional country-club hand feel outdoors.

Buyers sometimes assume micro piqué is a cheaper, lighter-weight polo. It's a tighter knit construction, not a quality downgrade — plenty of micro piqué performance polos cost more per unit than a basic cotton piqué shirt because of the moisture-wicking yarns involved.
