Hot Peel
Hot peel means removing a transfer's carrier film immediately after pressing, while the shirt is still too hot to touch comfortably, without waiting for it to cool.
Hot-peel transfers release their PET film within a second or two of the press opening, still at or near application temperature, because the manufacturer formulated the adhesive to solidify fast under heat rather than needing a cooldown phase. Most DTF transfers and a share of plastisol transfers are built this way specifically so the carrier can come off in one motion, straight off the platen, before the operator moves to the next shirt.
For a shop, hot peel is a production-speed decision as much as a technical one — pulling film immediately means no cooling rack, no second station, and no risk of a stack of pressed shirts sitting around waiting for someone to remember which ones are done. On a 200-piece order we ran last spring, switching a supplier's hot-peel DTF sheets into our line cut nearly a full minute per shirt compared to the cold-peel batch we'd been running the week before, purely from not needing a cooling step.
Buyers ordering DTF transfers to press at home need to check the packaging or supplier notes before they start, because pressing technique differs: hot peel means pull the film fast and firm, in one continuous motion, right off the platen, while the shirt is still almost too hot to hold. Pulling too slowly on a hot-peel sheet can drag the ink and blur fine text or thin lines.
The common mistake is treating "hot peel" as a quality marker rather than a handling instruction — it isn't better or worse than cold peel, it's a different chemistry that demands different technique, and pulling a cold-peel sheet hot (or vice versa) is the single most common reason a DIY presser ends up with a half-transferred design stuck to the film.
