Rhinestone Transfer
A rhinestone transfer is a pre-arranged pattern of hotfix stones set face-down on a sticky carrier tape, pressed onto a garment as one piece.
Fifty homecoming shirts need the same rhinestone name pressed on by five o'clock — that's what a rhinestone transfer solves. A design gets cut as a template, usually clear mylar with the pattern etched out, then filled by hand or machine with hotfix stones set face-down into the openings and held by a clear transfer tape over the top. The whole assembled sheet presses onto the garment at once, commonly 300 to 320°F for 15 to 20 seconds under firm, even pressure, melting the glue backing on every stone simultaneously; once it cools, the tape peels away, leaving the stones bonded in perfect alignment.
This is how spiritwear companies turn out the same design across a whole roster without setting each stone one at a time — the pattern is built once and reused across the whole run. Cheer and dance studios lean on rhinestone transfers the same way for bodysuits and warmup jackets where hand-setting would be too slow and too expensive to repeat per order.
Pricing runs by stone count and size rather than by design size the way vinyl or print does — a name in ss10 stones costs less than the same name in ss20, and a dense, filled logo costs meaningfully more than an outlined one. Care instructions get skipped on rhinestone orders more than on any other embellishment we sell, and that's the real mistake. Even well-set stones need cold water, inside-out washing, and air drying — tumble heat softens the glue over repeated cycles, and stones start dropping off in the areas that flex most, like under the arm or across the chest.
